National School Sports Week, 19th - 23rd June

We had a fun-filled sports week this year, with each class having an in-school activity, an inspiring whole school assembly, trips for Y3 & Y5, District Sports and culminating in Sports Day! Please see the NSSW newsletter for all the details!

Sports Day, 23rd June

Well done to every child in KS1 and KS2 for participating so well in Sports Day, with a carousel of sporting activities as well as class running races.

Congratulations to Sweden who won the day with excellent results and great chanting!

Teamer

This year, we are becoming more eco-friendly by limiting paper printing so pupils chosen for the teams will be notified through the app, teamer.

You will receive a notification via the app or email if your child is selected. You can view all the location and team details on the event, and accept or decline your children's status.

Please do this promptly so the staff organising teams know who is coming or can call up other squad members.

On teamer, you will be able to view all upcoming fixtures for the Netball, Football and Cross Country teams, as and when they are organised.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in and submit results for the first St Peter's PE Challenge of the Spring term. It was great to see pupils from our youngest years to Y6 competing!  This week was an individual and pairs throwing challenge- how many times could you throw and catch the ball in 30 seconds? This develops hand-eye co-ordination and teamwork, two important elements of sports! The results are in the table below- congratulations to Leopards!

Place Points Score
1 Leopard 58
2 Jaguar 57
3 Lion 50
4 Tiger 48

There will be a weekly challenge, released each Monday to your child's google classroom. Please submit your results by Thursday at 3pm to sports@stpeters.herts.sch.uk and winners will be announced in Mrs Young's celebration assembly on Fridays.

Next week's challenge is a Fitness Challenge!

On Friday 20th November, Year 5 and Year "had their best PE lesson ever" after Miss Honour and Miss Tucker announced an intra-school UPKS2 competition. They challenged each other in football, netball, distance running, toe tapping and standing on one leg, with excellent effort, teamwork and sportsmanship from all!

Results were close, with Year 6 winning Football and Netball, Year 5 winning Standing on One Leg and Toe Tapping, and almost equal points scored in the Girls and Boys running races... But the overall winners with 98 points were Year 5 (Year 6 gained 84!)

After auditing our provision for PE and school sports in 2018-19, we are proud to announce we have achieved the Gold School Games Mark!

The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

The School Games Mark was put on hold in 2019-20, but we hope to maintain our high sporting standards throughout this current period in order to maintain our Gold Mark!

Welcome back to the Summer Term!
