VE Day 8/5/25
Today we celebrated VE Day by wearing red, white and blue to school. We coloured in union jack bunting, learnt about the importance of the day and what a big celebration it is. We ended the day by singing a song called 'I'll Remember' in assembly. There were also some yummy VE Day themed puddings at lunch time!
2/5/25
In our first art lesson this term, we were looking at sculptures. The class then split into groups and created their own sculpture using recycling. They all made some brilliant animal sculptures and worked well in their groups; ensuring everyone felt included, cared for and maintained a positive attitude. Well done Owls!
April 2025
We have had a busy spring term in owls class. We have been practicing our 2, 5, 10 and 3 times tables by carrying out a carousel of games. We have been writing free verse poems in literacy about our school, special people in our lives and an animal. We have included similes in these poems as well. We carried out some interesting investigations in science and recorded our findings after we predicted what the outcome might be. We went on a class trip to Windsor Castle and we loved exploring the state rooms, the Queen's dolls house and the chapel where Queen Elizabeth II is buried. We also taste-tested and made soup in our DT lessons where we practiced our chopping and mashing skills. We wrapped up the term with a trip to the Odyssey to watch Garfield.
28th March Scoot-ability Road Safety Lesson.
We had a lady called Collette from Hertfordshire County Council come into school to teach the class road safety and how to use their scooters safely. They class learnt that white lights on the car mean they are reversing, red lights mean stop and yellow lights are the indicators which tell us which way the car is going. They also learnt to stop, look and listen before we cross a road. They know to always walk their scooters across the road and to use the break on the back of the scooter to stop. Everyone did an amazing job!
25/11/24
We have started rehearsing in the hall for our Nativity - Prickly Hay. Both owls and robins classes have been amazing with learning their lines and are now adding some extra expression and actions to go with them. There has been a lot of enthusiasm for our DT lessons this term. We have been learning about axles, chassis and wheels and recently designed our own cars. These will be created over the next few weeks. A busy term; but a very fun term!
14/10/24
In literacy we have been looking at various different list poems by different authors, such as John Lyons, Grace Nichols and Allan Ahlberg. We discussed what we liked and disliked about the poems and had a go of performing them as well. We have also written 3 of our own poems: a 'What is Autumn?' poem, 'Things I've been doing lately' poem and a 'Questions' poem. Each child picked their favourite poem out of the three and wrote it up into neat. These have been put up on display in our classroom for everyone to enjoy! Well done Owls!
7/10/24
We are almost ready to complete our collages for our art topic. We have painted pieces of paper various colours in preparation for this and will be cutting and tearing these into smaller pieces so they can be added to their landscape drawings. The class have paid great attention to detail with this so far and I am really looking forward to seeing what the final pieces of art work look like.
The class have settled in to the first few weeks of Year 2 well. They have already been working extremely hard, striving to always try their best and showing the school values of caring, positive and inclusive. We have started all of our topics for this half term and the children have shown great enthusiasm for them all already. We have started looking at materials and their properties in science and we have discussed primary, secondary and complementary colours in art. We even created our own logos in RE and been using conjunctions in literacy whilst writing in the past tense. I look forward to sharing more amazing information with you all as the weeks go on.
