Year 6 Puffins

Autumn Term 2

Amaravati Buddhist Monastery Trip

Year 6 had the honour of visiting the Amaravati Buddhist Monastery. Once we had arrived, we had a tour of the monastery grounds which included a walk across the field to see the Declan Stupa. We were given the opportunity to ask questions, and it's fair to say that the adults were incredibly impressed with the maturity and thought that the children put into the questions they asked. We visited the sala, was formerly greeted by the monks and nuns who chanted before having lunch, and we even got to practice guided meditation in the temple.

Autumn Term 1

International Week Showcase

As part of International week, some Year 6 children presented special items of clothing, food items and interesting facts to the rest of the class about a country that is special to them. It was really nice to hear the reasons why the chosen countries were so important to the children.

International Week

We have visited many different countries as part of International week. We have loved visiting different classrooms to learn more about different countries throughout the world.

Maths – Finding missing internal angles

We have been learning about 2D shapes as part of our Geometry Fridays. This has included exploring types of triangles as well as finding missing angles in triangles. We worked out the missing angles on our tables and then checked through our answers together with Mr Watts. It was fun!

Class Assembly

We would like to say a huge thank you for coming to our class assembly. We would also like to extend an extra big thank you to Mrs Binks for writing a song for us to sing too!

Year 6 Start of the Year

Year 6 have had a very busy and fun start to the year, learning across all of the different subjects. We will be updating our page regularly so please check back to see examples of our work.

In Literacy, we are exploring the topic 'Space' by learning about the different planets in our solar system. This week, the children will be using their knowledge and imagination to design their very own planets in the form of a non-chronological report. So far, the project has called upon their research skills; organise key facts into sections; explore language which is technical, as well as language which can be used to engage the reader. Check back next week to see the finished outcomes!

Over the last few weeks, we have been studying the work of Austrian artist Gustav Klimt in Art. We have created collages, taking inspiration from his use of colour, shape, pattern and texture. These will be on display so please do come and have a look during Learn and Share. We have attached some below as well so you can see examples.
