We have had lots of special visitors this week! We have had our Lollipop man, a Doctor, a Nurse, Police officers and the fire brigade, to name a few!
Superheroes!
This week we have been role playing superheroes, writing superhero stories and masking masks!
This week we read 'Supertato' by Paul Linnet and learnt all about the Evil Pea. To our surprise, when we came in one morning, someone had been in our classroom causing mischief....who could it be and who could help these vegetables? We set out on a search for the Evil Pea; designing and building traps and making WANTED posters to put up around the school.

World Book Day 5th March 2025
We enjoyed decorating our classroom door to represent one of our favourite books 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. During the day we enjoyed taking part in a reading buddy session with Year 2, a book swap and even got to visit other classes during story time.
Check out some of the children's photos of them reading in unusual places too!

Celebrating 100 days of school!
This week Reception celebrated being at school for 100 days. Since the start of the year we have been counting the days and marking this off using a 100 square grid. We have also been practising counting in tens and ones up to 100! The children brought in some wonderful homework to do with the number 100. On the day we enjoyed taking part in a PE session where we completed 100 different exercises and then had fun completing different craft activities such as 100 glasses and crowns.

Pirates! (w/b 27.1.25)
Arrrr! Here be pirates...
This week we used our imaginations to sail us across the seven seas in search of treasure and adventure! We made junk model ships and tested them to see if they would float; using our problem solving skills to see if we could improve them. We also drew treasure maps and explored grid references.
Winter and Maps (w/b 20.1.25)
We went for a walk around our local area and looked for the signs that it is winter. We saw lots of birds and enjoyed exploring the Nunnery with our friends. Thank you to all the parents who came with us!
We have also been exploring maps and looking at maps of St. Albans. We marked our homes on the map, designed our own maps and experimented with programming when using Beebots.
Spring 1: Let's Go on an Adventure
Gymnastics: We had our first gymnastics lesson and explored making different shapes with our bodies.
Winter: This week we read 'Betty and the Yeti' by Ella Burfoot and discussed the different signs of Winter and the clothes that you might wear. During Play and Learn some of the children then decided to make their own puppets and used pieces of material to collage the clothes.
Spring term 1: Let's Go on an Adventure
We made puppets for our Christmas nativity show 'Away in a Manger'
Autumn (w/b 18.11.24)
This week, we read 'Pumpkin Soup' by Helen Cooper and then made our own butternut squash soup. We chopped and mixed up the ingredients and then enjoyed tasting it at the end of the day! We also read 'Leaf Man' by Lois Ehlert and went on an Autumn leaf hunt. Lots of children decided to create their own leaf man, complete with a map of where he travelled on his adventures!
Remembrance Day, Diwali and Children in Need (w/b 11.11.24)
We marked some special occasions this week. On Monday, we watched an animation about Remembrance Day and observed a minute's silence. On Wednesday, one of our parents came in to tell us all about how their family celebrates Diwali. Then on Friday, we raised money for Children In Need by taking part in a Drumbathon!
Fireworks (w/b 4.11.24)
This week, we made firework rockets from junk modelling! We had to think carefully about the shapes we needed and then choose an effective method to attach the parts together, making sure they were secure.
Magical Tea Party
We had a super week making potion recipes, exploring capacity and hunting for shapes. The week culminated in our Magical Tea Party which was lots of fun! We played party games in the hall, iced biscuits and took part in lots of magical crafts and activities.
Thank you for all your donations for our Harvest Collection
When I Grow Up (w/b 30.9.24)
This week we thought about all the ways we have changed since we were babies and played 'Guess Who' with our baby photos. We also drew what we wanted to be when we grew up and had a go at writing the sounds we could hear in the words.
Mixed (w/b 23.9.24)
We read the story 'Mixed' by Arree Chung and used it to explore colour mixing. Some children took on the extra challenge of painting their own colour wheel! We then used the story to help us celebrate our the similarities and differences we have between ourselves and our peers.
Self Portraits
We looked carefully in the mirror and considered what colours to choose when painting our self portraits. In circle time, we thought about all the ways that we might be similar or different to each other.
Our First Week of School (week beginning 9.9.24)
The children have had a great first week at school. They have settled in really well and enjoyed exploring the different areas of our environment. We are very proud of them!
