Wrens are working very hard at mastering their times tables. While we need to practise our quick recall of times tables facts, we have also been learning about the associative and distributive laws of multiplication. We worked in pairs to apply the distributive law to solve multiplications which we do not yet know mentally.

Wrens have been wonderfully creative in Art this week, taking inspiration from the poem 'The Hippocrump' to produce an oil pastel drawing of this mystical creature.
05.03.26 - WORLD BOOK DAY
It was wonderfully cosy to come to school in our pyjamas for World Book Day. We started the celebrations with a circle time all about books. The theme for the day was books for empathy and in Wrens, we read Valentine's Guest House by Sam Sharland. Elsie and her Mum, Valentine, make lots of changes to their hotel to accommodate unexpected guests like Emmet the tiger. We wrote postcards, imagining ourselves as one of the animal guests. Together we worked in small groups to imagine how Elsie and Valentine might accommodate other guests such as koalas, horses and even orcas! We painted guest rooms in watercolours and added in our animal guests in oil pastels. The afternoon was busy too with reading with our friends in Year 2 Owls and enjoying a bedtime story with children and adults all across the school. We managed to squeeze in some cosy reading time too!

27.02.26
We worked together in Maths this week to calculate the perimeter of a shape composed of congruent rectangles.

In Design and Technology, we evaluated shop-bought sandwiches according to the Eatwell plate which we remembered from Science and planned our own healthy, savoury sandwiches. In preparation, we practise our spreading, slicing, chopping and grating skills. Finally, we made our own and wow, they were delicious and healthy!
01.12.25
In art this half term, we have been developing our printing skills. We started by creating observational drawings of insects and then learned to simplify our drawings focusing on their shape and features. Last week, we used mark making to draw our insects onto the ink to make a monoprint. This week, we made a block print by carving a piece of polyfoam.

17.11.25
On Wednesday, we visited the Islamic Centre on Hatfield road. We were warmly greeted by the President, Akhtar Zaman, who spoke to us about the Islamic faith and what it means to be Muslim. We were given a tour of the mosque, visiting both prayer rooms and the ablutions areas where Muslims practise Wudu before prayer. Wrens were so inquisitive and asked lots of interesting questions. Thank you to our parent helpers too.

10.11.25 Anti-bullying Week
What a busy week we had celebrating Anti-Bullying Week and Children in Need 2025! We kicked off the week with Odd Socks day celebrating our differences. We are all different and unique and that is what makes us special! In PSHE, we thought about our Powers for Good qualities like being kind, standing up for friends and being inclusive.
Children in Need 2025 - Challenge Yourself 25
Wrens chose to challenge themselves to building 25 Lego models in 25 minutes. They met this challenge with an enthusiastic attitude and worked together brilliantly and creatively!
17.10.25 - St Peter's International Week
Our emotional literacy word of the week was 'surprised'. Wrens were surprised to find out that 25 countries from around the world are represented in our class.
It has been a wonderful week of discoveries. We had the opportunity to 'travel' across the world (from classroom to classroom!) and visited Morocco, France, Germany, Bangladesh, South Africa, Vietnam and China! We learned greetings in different languages, learned about flags and geography and discovered fun facts about these countries. We were lucky to take part in different activities such as Islamic art, Sari design, French singing and playing Rugby like the South Africans!
In addition, we also learned about an international artist, Wayne Thiebaud, from the Pop Art movement. He inspired us to create our own pop art all about ice creams! Yum!
13.10.25
Our emotional literacy word of the week has been 'furious'. In The Witches, Grandmamma was furious to find out she was not allowed to travel to Norway and had to holiday on the English coast instead.
In Design and Technology, we have been learning about shell structures. This week, we designed the net for our cubes and cuboids which we will be constructing soon.
06.10.25
Our emotional literacy word of the week has been 'relieved'.
We took inspiration from the poem The Magic Box by Kit Wright to write collaboratively about nature. We took a walk around our grounds and used our senses to observe nature around us. Together we worked to write free verse poetry.
