Week commencing 20th July 2026
Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Content'. Content is feeling happy and satisfied with what you have and what you are doing. You feel calm, comfortable and pleased, and you are not wishing for something different because you are happy with things as they are.
Wow, what a fantastic and memorable final week we have had in Year 2 Robins! The children have come such a long way and their journey this year has been phenomenal. I'm so proud to have been your teacher and I wish everyone a very happy summer! Thank you, Robins and your parents and carers for this year. Keep on ROCKING!

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Disappointed'. Disappointed is the feeling you have when something did not happen the way you hoped or wanted it to.
In Science, we have been learning about germs, how they spread and how to keep ourselves hygienic, clean and healthy. We investigated how far a sneeze travels. In one experiment, the glitter represented germs on the hands after someone had sneezed! These children then shook their classmates' hands and observed how the germs spread throughout the classroom! The glitter (germs) were still visible on the 6th person's hand! Urgh!

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Ecstatic'. Ecstatic is when you are feeling so happy and excited that it is hard to contain your joy.
Today, we are making our final products in DT, with the help of some of our family members! We are all VERY ecstatic!
Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who attended our final Learn and Share for this year. The children in Robins were very proud to share their work and enjoyed performing their class rap to the amazing audience!

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Impatient'. Impatient is when you don’t like waiting and want something to happen right away.
We won the golden dustpan again last week! We are sharing it with Year 6. Well done all!
In History, we used a Venn diagram to identify how seaside holidays have changed over time. In DT, we learnt how to make the running stitch and over stitch to sew fabrics together.

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Accepted'. Accepted is what we feel when we are welcomed, included, and treated kindly as part of a group.
Robins enjoyed learning about the Summer Reading Challenge in assembly. Let's all take part and get lost in a book or two!
DT in Year 2 this term is all about textiles and making finger puppets. Look at Robins' designs and final finger puppet products.
Speed stacks was great fun too this week with Mrs Hamilton!

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Miserable'. Miserable means feeling very unhappy, upset, or uncomfortable, often because something has gone wrong or isn’t the way we want it to be.
This week, Robins were far from miserable as it was National School Sports Week. We had a great time with a karate assembly, a fencing workshop and Sports Day!

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Amazed'. Amazed means feeling really surprised in a happy way, when something is so exciting or special it makes you stop and say “Wow!”
Robins participated in their Scooterbility training which taught them how to use it safely including how to stand with it, how to ride it, how to break and how to cross a road.
On Thursday, we didn't let the rain stop us enjoying our visit to Southend-on-Sea for our History and Geography topics this term. Year 2 enjoyed the train rides along the longest pier in the world and had fun learning in the museum. Instead of eating our ice lollies on the beach this year, we had them in class the following day and they were scrumptious!

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Confused'. Being confused is a feeling when we are unsure or not understanding something, so it can be hard to know what to think or do.
This week, Robins finishes their plant diaries. We were all amazed to see how each plant had grown, even when they had different growing conditions.
Summer Term 1 2026
Week commencing 18th May 2026
Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Grateful'. Being grateful means feeling really thankful and happy for the kind things people do and the good things we have.
This week saw three celebrations for Robins!
Firstly, Robins enjoyed using the gymnastics equipment as the award for winning the PSA Stomp It competition. We also won two lots of 5 minutes extra play on Friday - for the Golden Dustpan award for the tidiest classroom and for getting a line in OPAL bingo! What a fantastic end to this half term!
Art was great this week, as children practised scoring, slipping and blending clay to make flowers.
We hope everyone has a restful holiday. See you all on Tuesday 2nd June.

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Guilty'. Feeling guilty is when we think we have done something wrong. It can make us feel sorry and wish we had made a better choice.
We put our plan into action this week during our Science lesson and potted our broad bean seeds for our fair test! As a class, we decided where to place our pots and to change one thing:
- One has all the correct conditions for the seeds to grow - soil, water, sunlight and temperature
- One is by the window but does not have any soil
- One is by the window but will not have any water
- One is in the cupboard without sunlight
- One is by the window but does not have the correct temperature all the time - it will be put in the fridge every day
We are recording their growth. What do you think will happen?
Week commencing 4th May 2026
Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Proud'. Proud is a feeling we have when we have done something really well. We can feel proud of ourselves, and we can also feel proud of other people too.
In Science this week, we have been learning about what plants need to grow and survive. We have planned a fair test to see how plants grow in different conditions and have predicted what will happen in the next couple of weeks to our broad bean seeds.
Thank you to all the parents and carers that came to join us in our OPAL Learn and Share session on Wednesday afternoon. It was great to show you all the fun we have here at St Peters playing every lunchtime!

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Frustrated'. Frustrated is when we feel upset or cross because something is hard to do or isn’t working.
During OPAL lunchtimes, we have been having lots of fun playing creatively, positively and kindly with each other. Children have been enjoying the fun dressing up, making and blowing bubbles, and decorating the trees with nature art!
In art, we have worked in small groups to make a variety of amazing animals, using junk modelling materials.

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Content'. The children in Robins feel content when we are happy, relaxed and everything feels just right.
In computing, we used 2Paint a Picture on Purple Mash, to create images inspired by Pointillism.

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Disappointed'. Disappointed is how we feel when something doesn’t happen the way we hoped it would.
In Literacy, we have started to read The Lost Homework by Richard O'Neill. Children wrote wonderful sentences that included the apostrophe for possession.

Week commencing 10th November 2025
Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Amazed'. Robins were amazed this week to have won the Golden Dustpan again!
What a busy week we've had! It's been Anti-Bullying Week and we kicked it off by wearing odd socks on Monday to celebrate that we are all different and unique. We've been learning about how to use our 'Power for Good' to be kind to others and to help positively if we witness bullying.
In DT, children worked in small groups to create a car out of junk modelling items – they're superb – and in Literacy, stories about regular journeys have been written inspired by the book 'Last Stop on Market Street' by Matt de la Peña.
The week has ended by completing 'Challenge 25' for Children In Need. The Robins had an exciting 25 minutes of moving to Danny Go! Have you tried Wake and Shake?

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Confused'. If we are ever confused about something, we can always ask for help.
We have all come back to school refreshed after the break. This week in Computing, we have learnt how to use 2Code to create a snail race! We learnt how to use the random tool, so the snails travel a different number of steps each time they race.
Autumn Term 1 2025

Our emotional literacy work of the week is 'Grateful'. We are grateful that we can all come to learn at St Peter's. We are grateful for all our friends here who we can play with and have lots of fun with. We're also grateful for our equipment outside and for OPAL. All the adults work really hard and we are grateful for what they do to make Year 2 a wonderful place.

Our emotional literacy word of the week is 'Guilty'. If we are guilty of doing something wrong, we should always own up, be honest and apologise by saying sorry.
It has been International Week at St Peters this week and we have all jetted off to different countries in our classrooms! In our Robins' classroom, we learnt about Hungary and then we travelled to Rabbits, Foxes and Owls to learn about India, Australia and Brazil! We found out about the countries' locations, flags, languages, flowers, dress, food, toys, music, dance and art. Each year group created art work inspired by an international artist - we used 'Roll a Miro' to produce figures inspired by the Spanish surrealist artist Joan Miro. Ms Hayden even taught us drumming using the Djembe drums! On Friday, the whole school had an assembly to share what we had all learnt and the week was finished off by a great visit from a Year 2 parent who taught us even more about her hometown of Hungary.

Our emotional literacy word of the week is 'Proud'. We are proud to belong to St Peter's School.
It has been Children's Mental Health Week and we came to school on Monday wearing something yellow. We spread positivity and happiness throughout the week and thought of how we can help others by asking how they are and how to make them feel better. We had yellow OPAL too which was so much fun!

Our emotional literacy word of the week is 'Content'. When working on our art, we all feel content.
This week has seen us all very relaxed and happy as we've created our art collages inspired by the artist Robin Brooks. In previous lessons, we prepared our papers for the collage by mixing primary and secondary colours. Then this week, we created the collage landscape scenes by ripping and cutting paper and then placing them into positions with glue.
In maths, we learnt about benchmarks on number lines and discussed what the benchmarks are and where we would then place other numbers.
Week commencing 22nd September 2025
Our emotional literacy word of the week is 'Disappointed'. We were disappointed when Rat left the forest in the story 'Frog and The Stranger'.
This week, Robins have been writing great sentences linked to the story 'Frog and The Stranger' by Max Velthuijs. They have worked hard to include conjunctions and also expanded noun phrases to describe the character.
We were very lucky to take part in a drama experience led by the company 'Perform'. Children became castles and dragons as the wizard told the fantasy story. Well done Robins with your expressive actions and dramatical skills!

Our emotional literacy word of the week is 'Frustrated'. We can become frustrated when we find something difficult to do or when we make a mistake, but we remain positive and persevere to carry on and try our very best.
In maths, we have been representing teen numbers using different equipment such as tens frames and beadstrings. For PSHE, we thought about how we follow our school values of positive, caring and inclusive, and created a class charter to show that we pledge to live each day in these ways. Our science enabled us to explore the materials that classroom objects are made of. We discussed the materials and their properties such as hard, smooth, transparent and fluffy.

Welcome to the class page of Year 2 Robins at St Peter's! We have had a fantastic start to the new school year, and we look forward to sharing our amazing learning with you throughout the following months.
Our first full week back at school saw us being awarded The Golden Dustpan! This meant we were the tidiest, cleanest and sparkling classroom. We were all so proud.
