At St Peter's School, your child is at the absolute heart of everything we do. Looking after their health, happiness, and safety is our greatest priority, and we are dedicated to providing a supportive, nurturing environment where every child can thrive.
With this dedicated care in mind, we want to share an important update about Benedict’s Law. This vital safety standard is named in memory of Benedict Blythe, a little boy who tragically passed away from a severe allergic reaction at school. To ensure no other family goes through this, schools across the country now follow strict, proactive steps to protect children with allergies.
We want you to have complete peace of mind when you wave your child off at the school gates. Under Benedict's Law, our school strictly maintains three core protections:
While we do not allow nuts on our school site, we use the term "Allergy Aware." This is because we know children can be allergic to many different things, not just nuts. Being allergy aware means we look at the whole picture. We educate our children about sharing food, wash hands regularly, and keep a watchful eye out to protect every single child with an allergy.
Alongside our allergy care, we are equally committed to supporting our pupils who live with asthma. We understand how important it is for you to feel confident that your child's respiratory needs are fully met during the school day.
Our staff are fully trained to regularly and safely administer inhalers whenever a child needs them. Whether it is a scheduled dose or quick relief during active play, we ensure your child is supported with patience, warmth, and reassuring care. We also closely monitor weather changes and physical activities to keep your child comfortable, safe, and fully included.
To help us provide the very best care for your child, we ask for your partnership. Every child with an allergy, asthma, or any other medical condition must have a formal care plan in place:
If you have any questions, or just want a reassuring chat about how we can support your child's health, our doors are always open. Please reach out to the school office at any time.
