What an exciting and busy week we’ve had! In Science, the children explored the human digestive system, tracking food’s journey and learning key scientific vocabulary like saliva, oesophagus, stomach, and intestines. In Literacy, we launched our new unit based on the book ‘The King Who Banned the Dark’, where the children will be crafting persuasive letters.
Maths has seen fantastic progress as everyone worked hard to master column addition—even tackling tricky 'missing number' puzzle challenges! Meanwhile, we completed our brilliant collage unit in Art, and in Music, the children have been busily rehearsing their performance pieces to dazzle you at our next concert!

Literacy The children have reached the grand finale of our Arthur and the Golden Rope unit! After drafting their own brilliant alternative adventure stories, they took on the challenge of transforming their missions into graphic novel-style comic strips. They poured so much detail into their illustrations and dialogue, and it was wonderful to see how much they enjoyed the creative process.
History Continuing our journey through Ancient Rome, we turned our focus to the famous Iceni queen, Boudicca. Using historical clues from ancient records, the children pieced together what she might have looked like. They were particularly inspired by the Roman historian Cassius Dio, who described her as a tall, striking warrior with a fierce gaze, a booming voice, and a huge cascade of reddish-red hair down to her hips! Taking these details, the children created some fantastic painted portraits based on these original historical descriptions.

What a fantastic day Kingfishers had on Wednesday at the Roman Festival at St Albans Cathedral!
Our young historians stepped back in time to explore life in Roman Verulamium through three exciting, hands-on activities:
The Blanket Dig: Working in small archaeological teams, the children uncovered ancient artifacts hidden under blankets, learning how historians piece together clues from the past.
Roman Food: A practical (and delicious!) exploration where the pupils discovered what the Romans ate, how they prepared their meals, and how their diet compares to ours today.
Alban and the Romans Trail: Guided through the stunning historic cathedral, the children learned the famous story of Alban and saw firsthand how Roman history is woven into the very fabric of St Albans.
The children represented the school wonderfully, showing immense curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the day. Thank you to the parent helpers who helped make this memorable learning experience possible!

In Literacy this term, Kingfishers class have successfully launched their first unit based on the captivating text, Arthur and the Golden Rope. The children have been working hard to master key grammatical rhymes, earning their first 'word group ninja' rewards in the process. Having firmly established the definitions of nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs, the pupils began constructing complex sentences. Using a focal illustration as inspiration, the children carefully selected appropriate nouns, enhanced them with descriptive adjectives, and incorporated precise verbs, which they then upgraded using adverbs. The resulting descriptive sentences produced by the Kingfishers have been truly exceptional.
