This week's word is: Anxious
We discussed being worried and nervous, and if this is the same as being anxious or having anxiety. We realised lots of our class have worries and are nervous about things, but often these are short-lived and we can overcome them or feel proud when we address them.
Our previous words have been: Hopeless, Inspired, Empathetic
7th October- Reading Buddies
This afternoon we had a lovely time visiting our Year 1 buddies in Rabbits class. We chatted with them and read together before the end of the day!
6th October- Art
We have used our element of still life to try different styles of drawing- this week it was Surrealism! The children thought about ways they could change the scale, setting, materials or relationship of the mug from their still life sketches. There were some very creative ideas, as seen in the photos!
1st October - English Unit 2: Monsterology
Over the last couple of weeks, we have read Ernest Drake's Monsterology book and examined the many different creatures in the handbook, using them to write diaries and letters. Throughout the unit, we have tried hard to use formal, scientific vocabulary, as well as a range of sentence structures including conjunctions and clauses. We are currently planning our own creatures so check back next week to discover a range of new fabulous beasts!
16th September - English unit 1: The Lost Words Poetry
We have completed our first English unit of Year 5! We read and listened to poems from the book 'The Lost Words' which is all about nature. The acrostic poems contain poetic features such as alliteration, similes and personification, with some rhyme too! We have practised these techniques and written our own poems in the same style, based on British flora and fauna. In our final lesson on 16th September, we had a chance to read others' poems and perform them to small groups.
15th September- Art
We have continued our Drawing and Painting unit in our second lesson by sketching some still-life images, thinking carefully about the size and proportion of each component, as well as trying different shading techniques.
